Poem 0015 for Anita – Just Maybe

I know you want an answer
And you want it now.
Well, I’m just not ready.
Or if I must be ready,
Then I can only offer a
“Just maybe.”

Yesterday, I had a plan and
There were times when I thought
It was working.

Today, while having what
ReclinersI first took to be regular
Conversation, I could see
My plans coming to ruins.
In my embarrassment as a
Planner, I could only attest
Quietly and loudly to my
Vane attempts to reach my goal.

Given that I had nothing
To show for all my efforts
(Unless I counted this
Conversation as fruit of
My labors — and that
Would never do),
I took to the new plan the
Hard way.

Which leads me back to the
Original question and my
Original answer:

Why couldn’t I have left it
At “Just maybe”
And begun the new plan
Tomorrow?

And the new answer is as
Obvious as the sunrise
In morning.
The new goal
Or the new way of
Reaching the goal
Is not better all by itself.
It is the manner of
Starting and way of approach
That are new.

Alone is just a journey
And probably to an unknown
Destination.
In isolation, I had nothing
But the goal in mind.
I had no real reason for setting
The goal and no value
Placed on any of it.

Setting out on this path
With two is better
Than making the journey
Alone.

Sojourning together and realizing
That the journey is the result
Is a pilgrimage.
Each sojourner is transformed.

Poem 0014 for Anita – Gratitude

It’s always essential
And not always easy to remember:
This morning,
I recall it and
Give thanks.

Poem 0013 for Anita – Lucky Day

What is a poet? An unhappy person who conceals profound anguish in his heart but whose lips are so formed that as sighs and cries pass over them they sound like beautiful music.
Soren Kierkegaard

I smell something in the air.
It’s sweet and bitter at the same time.
There’s a deep familiarity
And a vapid strangeness about it.Red bloom

Mundane and particular
In it’s essence,
It makes me curious to pursue it
To it’s source.

It’s not the neighbor’s wood fire
Or the dog’s breath.
Those are usual culprits for smells
But not the initiators of this
Enchanting, attractive one.

Perhaps I need to stop trying to
Sniff it out.
I’m not sure that it’s sniffable at all.

Perhaps it’s the start of something new:
A shift into a totally different mindset
Or a tangent that becomes the new paradigm.

Perhaps it’s not anything on the outside.
It’s a turbulence inside that’s firing up,
Creating itself all over again;
Fierce enough to make it’s way
And calm enough to slip by unnoticed
By some.

Yes: I smell, feel, sense it.
And it’s real as anything.

Poem 0012 for Anita – No Comparison

Posted by Stan Stewart (Sawyer) on November 23, 2010 under Stan Stewart | Be the First to Comment

You do things your wayLaugh. Breathe.
and I do things mine.
Not by design.
This is just the way it is.

It’s not simple, but not really complex.
Maybe it will remain a paradox for all time.
You get your work done just as I do.
Yet the ways we get there bear
No comparison at all.

It’s as if we come from different worlds –
And in many ways we do.

At times I’ve let our differences stand
In the way. In fact, we each have had
Moments of doubt when the approach
Of the other person seemed too foreign
To grasp.
And so time, patience, love, compassion,
Consideration and sometimes even
Understanding
Have been our teachers and our
Companions.

Now, where we are today,
It continues to be surprising,
The ways
We come together:
Shocking and inspiring at the same time
That our different ways do not
Stand in the way of our being
And working
And playing
Together.

Poem 0011 for Anita – “Good Tired”

Posted by Stan Stewart (Sawyer) on November 22, 2010 under Stan Stewart | Be the First to Comment

That tired place behind my eyes
Has started.
My neck is sore.
You always remind me not to
Crane my neck forward.
Each time I shift my consciousness
I notice that it’s craned again.

It’s been another long dayOutback Sunset
And we each share
The accomplishments and
Concerns that are with us
After sunset.

It sounds mundane to
Tell our story this way.
And it is not mundane
At all.
This sharing is a sacred moment,
A bliss of “having someone”,
Of being in a partnership.

Now, we two drowsy souls
Wander to bed.
Our dreams will be the
Dreams of hearts
Warmed with the
Fires of contentment.
