Snow in October? Really?
Yes. It really happened. Snow (over 6 inches) in the Poconos in October. Just in time for Halloween. Spooky, huh?
May you be cozy and warm.

“The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been before.
Creativity in living is not without its attendant difficulties, for peculiarity breeds contempt. And the unfortunate thing about being ahead of your time is that when people realize you were right, they’ll say it was obvious all along.
You have two choices in life: you can dissolve in the mainstream, or you can be distinct. To be distinct, you must be different. To be different, you must strive to be what no one else but you can be.”
- Alan Ashley-Pitt
I really like it when life shows me mandalas.
We went to Port Townsend last week, met some friends from Canada, and had a little get-away. Lovely company, wonderful food and wine, brisk walks all around this historic Victorian town, and an excursion to Fort Worden State Park where the movie An Officer and a Gentleman was filmed. Nice to see a military base that is no longer in use!
We stayed in a two-bedroom apartment right in the middle of town and could walk everywhere. What a great find! Full kitchen, wood stove, fresh flowers on the table when we arrived, right next to a garden, tons of privacy, our own little deck that no one else could see. I was ready to move in!
But perhaps my favorite thing was the mandala in our bedroom. Beautiful, inspiring, uplifting. All that a proper mandala should be.
I know, I know, I am just a broken record going around and around playing the same song!
I guess when I like the song I can hear it hundreds of times and never get tired of it.
The song that is playing for me right now is EASY FOCUS
Just in case you forgot the words, here they are:
Soften your gaze and grab that scrunched up place between your eyebrows. Now throw your hand up into the air and yell, WHEE!
This song is playing for me right now because my Hard Focuser is working overtime. Too many things piling up. Too many feelings crowding my space. Too many thoughts racing around in my head.
When my peripheral vision is engaged I really can see more. My breath deepens. My shoulders drop. My mind clears. I feel calm.
Some songs never get old!
Awakened in the middle of the night
By that call that I knew could come
And which I hoped would not
I am stretched beyond my best self.
This awakening has drawn me into
The wired state of mind where
Everything and nothing are important
And not important. Where the knowing
That I should go back to sleep does not
Override the strange, inexplicable desire
To stay awake. The results are odd and
Colored by blurred vision — eyes too tired
To care enough to focus. Instead, the
Outcome is a random bit of poetry
(You know — you’re reading it now)
And a mid-night raid on the snack cabinet.
The middle of the night call is anything but
A wake-up call. If anything, it is the go back
To sleep call. And then, my meandering thoughts
Begin to beacon me to pursuits of consciousness-
Raising and deep pondering. It is then that the
Quiet breathing of our house calls me back to
Sleep.
